Last Son – Episode 2 – Not Alone
Scene 1
The episode opens up with Superman waking up in a blank room dimly lit by red lighting. There is no door but there is a window in the room much like the kind in an interrogation room. Superman looks around confusedly before attempting to punch through the wall. He does no damage to the wall but hurts his hand in the process. A female voice is heard through some speakers.
Mysterious Female Voice: ”There’s no use, Superman. All the lights in that room are red sun rays, similar to the kind of rays that would emit from the sun of your home planet of Krypton. They make you almost… human. Something you’re surely not used to.”
Superman: “Who are you? Where am I? How do you know these things about Krypton?!?”
Mysterious Female Voice: “Well, Superman. I am Amanda Waller, the Director of A.R.G U.S. Which stands for the Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans. And you, Superman, you’re in a containment cell specifically designed to keep you inside.”
Superman: “You didn’t answer my question about Krypton.”
Amanda Waller: “Please, Kal-El. You aren’t the first Kryptonian to arrive on Earth. We’ve studied others like you for about the same amount of time that you’ve been alive.”
Superman: “There are others like me? Krypton was destroyed… they were all killed when the core of the planet became unstable and combustible.”
Amanda Waller: “That’s the story we heard from the other Kryptonians. They warned us about you specifically before you started flying around acting like some kind of guardian angel.”
Superman: “Who are the other Kryptonians?”
Amanda Waller: “That’s classified. I have other business to attend to, I’ll let you try to make sense of everything on your own, I’ll let it drive you mad as you spend the rest of your days either in this cell or as an asset for the U.S. government.”
Scene 2
We cut away to the bustling offices of The Daily Planet where we see Perry White yelling at Lois Lane in his office.
Perry White: "Lois! You can't keep bringing me this kind of crap! Last week, you were trying to make Superman look like a public menace and now you're trying to expose Lex Luthor with some kind conspiracy theory bull! Superman is good for Metropolis and you can't vilify him just because he refused to be a U.S. Government puppet like that Wonder Woman. Lex Luthor, on the other hand, I can at least kind of understand. He always seemed a bit menacing and he makes some of the most powerful weapons in the world but at the same time he's supplying our soldiers with weapons that will keep them alive and this country free! This article you gave me is just some conspiracy theory that's grasping at straws, no matter how well written it is!"
Lois Lane: "But, I've done my research! I've uncovered so much dirt on LexCorp and Luthor himself, it's shocking to me that you're willing to brush off all of this criminal activity like it's nothing."
Perry White: "But there's no proof that it's factual unless you have some credible and LEGAL sources."
Lois doesn't reply and instead just walks out of the office.
Perry White: "That's what I expected."
Scene 3
We cut away to Amanda Waller walking down a hallway with Steve Trevor following close behind.
Steve Trevor: "What was the point in having Diana capture Superman and bring him here?"
Amanda Waller: "Steve, you know the point. You know exactly why Superman is here, he's dangerous, too powerful and has refused to work with the U.S. Government multiple times and you know how some of those other Kryptonians were when they first arrived. Luckily, we had Maxwell Lord and the JSA to deal with them all those years ago, otherwise we would all be dead or slaves to those aliens."
Steve Trevor: "See, those super-humans were good and without them, those Kryptonians would've won."
Amanda Waller: "That's because they were under the control of the U.S. Government and the founder of A.R.G.U.S, Maxwell Lord."
Steve Trevor: "Yeah, well, Lord wasn't exactly a saint. He's rotting in a federal prison for the rest of his life because of the OMAC Project."
Amanda Waller: "He became paranoid, he took his mistrusting of Super-Humans to an extreme and it cost him his freedom and it cost us the lives of at least half of the Justice Society of America."
Steve Trevor: "You seem to be on your way to making the same mistakes Maxwell Lord did."
Amanda Waller stops walking and gets upset and in Steve Trevor's face.
Amanda Waller: "How dare you question me, Agent Trevor. You might not see what I see in Superman's eyes but I know he's dangerous just as Zod was. Superman is manipulating the world into thinking he's some kind of hero but I know who he really is, he's an alien whose just trying to gain our trust so he can rule over us all. Any kind of of Super-Human must be put into check and under control by the U.S. Government and if they aren't under our control then they are our enemy! You can't see that because you're blinded by your little crush on the amazon! Don't you see it, Steve. She'll never love you, she's probably going to end up loving someone like Superman. Not a government agent that stumbled onto her mystical island and introduced her to the rest of the world."
Steve Trevor remains silent and is obviously fuming mad but doesn't say anything out of fear.
Scene 4
We cut back to Superman who is still in his containment cell pacing back and forth while in deep thought when suddenly another woman's voice echoes through the speakers of Superman's cell. This voice has a very slight european accent.
"Hello Superman."
Superman: "You're not Waller. Who are you?"
"I'm Wonder Woman. The woman who captured you and brought you here."
Superman: "You work for them... What do you want?"
Wonder Woman: "What I want is to know the other side of the story, I want your story."
Superman: "There's no story to tell. I was just flying around when you attacked me."
Wonder Woman: "Then why did they send me after you?"
Superman: "Well, many months ago I was working with the U.S. Government, speaking directly with the President of the United States. Whenever there was a global disaster or anything else of that sort they'd request my help and I would provide assistance. It was all well and good until I stopped speaking with the President and instead received my information and orders from a General Wade Eiling. Eiling tried to get me to fight in their war and I refused. They tried to convince me to be their super-weapon, they tried to get me to be their key to essentially ruling the world. I didn't want to kill for them. I'm not here to hurt humanity but to protect it."
We cut away from Superman and over to the room that Wonder Woman is in. There are surveillance videos everywhere showing different parts of the building but the biggest monitor shows a live feed of Superman's containment cell. Wonder Woman has a look of disbelief and maybe slight relief on her face as she processes the story that she was just told.
Wonder Woman: "That's not what they told me. They told me you refused to work with them and threatened the world, they said you were too dangerous. They told me stories about others like you. They told me that it was just a matter of time before you tried to dictate humanity. I, I can't believe they lied to me."
Superman: "It's alright. Don't blame yourself, I've been in your position before. Their kind of power comes with a price and it looks like it was their conscience."
Wonder Woman: "Thank you, Superman and don't worry. I'll find a way to free you and put an end to their cruelty."
Scene 5
The next scene shows Lex Luthor sitting in his office looking at his computer intently with a subtle look of intense anger. We can't see the screen but Lex's attention is caught by the door to his office opening. Lois Lane walks in.
Lex Luthor: "Miss Lane, how'd you get passed security. Actually, I don't care. What do you want?"
Lois Lane: "I'd like to personally request an interview."
Lex Luthor: "An interview? You had to intrude into my office at nine o'clock at night to request an interview?"
Lois Lane: "I didn't want to get ignored, this interview is more than just a 'What is billionaire Lex Luthor up to these days' piece. This is regarding some things I dug up on you. I figured I should give you a chance to explain yourself."
Lex's look of anger was replaced by a look of smugness as a slight smirk appears on his face.
Lex Luthor: "And what did you dig up on me, Miss Lane?"
Lois Lane: "Where should I start? The money laundering? The tax fraud or maybe I should go with my favorite of them all, the illegal selling of your weaponry to some of the most dangerous criminals in the country including Harvey Dent, Carmine Falcone, Daniel Brickwell, Leonard Snart and Mick Rory."
Lex's smugness slowly washed away as Lois listed off what she knew about Lex. He once again looked absolutely furious but took a deep breathe before he appeared almost scarily calm.
Lex Luthor: "Don't believe everything you hear, Miss Lane. I'd suggest you stop trying to throw around wild accusations at innocent people. You never know what could happen if you piss off the wrong person, especially if that person is very VERY powerful. Say you were right about those accusations, why would you go after person that is allied with those kind of people? That would seem downright foolish."
Lois obviously looks frightened by Lex but tries to keep it hidden from Lex as she stands up to him.
Lex Luthor: "Why don't you go home, Miss Lane. I'm not giving you an interview."
Just then Luthor's assistant and bodyguard, Mercy Graves, walks in and grabs Lois by the arm and walks her out of the room. Lex returns to his desk and sits down in front of his computer. We get a brief shot of the screen that shows surveillance footage of Superman's containment cell.
Scene 6
We cut back to the A.R.G.U.S. building where we see Superman pacing in his containment cell when suddenly one of the walls just smashes to rubble and dust clouds his view of what caused it but once it clears up we see Wonder Woman standing there.
Wonder Woman: "Come on! Let's get out of here!"
Superman walks through the hole in the wall and meets Wonder Woman in the hallway.
Wonder Woman: "Let's fly out of here so we can think of how we're going to get our vengeance and dethrone these tyrants."
Superman: "No, I can't leave yet. Waller said that there were other Kryptonians here, I need to find them and free them."
Superman tries to use his X-Ray vision but it isn't working.
Superman: "I don't have my abilities back yet, I'll need to find another way."
Wonder Woman: "It'll be impossible to find them, we need to find the room that has the emergency release of their prisoners."
Superman and Wonder Woman begin running down the hall, with Wonder Woman leading the way. They run into Steve Trevor who looks shocked to see Wonder Woman helping Superman escape.
Steve Trevor: "Diana! What are you doing!?"
Wonder Woman: "I'm doing the right thing. You and the rest of your people lied to me and used me. I'm done being your puppet!"
Wonder Woman pulls out her sword quickly and holds the blade at Trevor's throat. Trevor looks at the blade with a look of astonishment at Wonder Woman's betrayal.
Steve Trevor: "You... I can't believe you're doing this."
Superman: "Leave him be, Wonder Woman. He's just a soldier doing what he's told."
Wonder Woman: "I loved him and he betrayed me! He lied to me! He was using me!"
Superman: "That doesn't mean he has to die."
Wonder Woman thinks deeply for a second before lowering her blade.
Steve Trevor breathes a sigh of relief.
Steve Trevor: "Thank you... I have a confession to make. Diana, I lo-"
Wonder Woman punches Steve in the face, knocking him out as he was mid-sentence.
Superman and Wonder Wonder continue down the hallway until they reach a room with sign that says 'Central Control Room'. Superman looks around the room and all the buttons and finds one labeled 'Emergency Release'. Superman hits the button and suddenly an alarm starts blaring and we get various shots of hidden doors sliding open throughout the building as we see a shot of Faora stepping through one of the doors, a red blur speeding out of one door, a large muscular man with wings flying out of one door and finally a shot of General Zod stepping out with a sinister smile on his face.
