It would appear as though perfectionism is a big part of how retired former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre became such a great fighter. Speaking with fans in his home of Montreal Friday, the day before UFC 186, "Rush" detailed the many times and ways he was disappointed with performances during his legendary career.
Asked if he was satisfied with what he accomplished during his MMA career, St-Pierre simply seemed as though he was not, even as he insisted he had no current interest in making a comeback. "I am kind of happy," he said.
"If I had to do it again, of course, there is some stuff I would change. You are never 100-percent happy with what you do. I am very critical of myself. There are some fights I didn't like. There were training camps [that were not perfect], there were times where I wished I would have prepared myself more adequately. But, that's how you gain experience. You can't change the past, you can only change the future."
In particular, St-Pierre cited "all" of his career, losses, as well as a few wins, as bouts that he was not happy with his performances during. "All of my losses," he began.
"My loss to Hughes, my loss to Serra. My first fight with BJ Penn, I hated. My fight with Jake Shields, I hated. My fight with Diaz, I despised it, completely. My last fight with Hendricks -- I was not happy with it, at all."
Though a return to MMA may be unlikely for the 33-year-old, when asked by a fan if he would be open to doing professional wrestling work in the WWE, as bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey recently did at Wrestlemania, St-Pierre seemed open to the idea. "Of course I would," he said, though he made clear to say that he felt he was "too small to make a career out of it."
"It would be something I would really enjoy to do if I had the opportunity. I used to be a massive fan of the WWF. I'm a massive fan. My favorite was Shawn Michaels."
St-Pierre also mentioned Brett Hart, Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan as other pro-wrestling favorites from his youth. "I
could wear a little speedo," St-Pierre joked.
"GSP with a speedo and a cape (laughs)."
