The Chicago Blackhawks have concluded the 2008-09 season with a 50-25-7 record ending with 107 points. They finished the season 3rd in the Western Conference, making the playoffs where they will play the St. Louis Blues in the first round.

Crawford injured, will miss playoffs In news that disappointed many Blackhawks' faithful, Corey Crawford left the March 27th game against the New Jersey Devils with an apparent injury early in the first period but returned near the end only to be pulled once again. It has been confirmed that he suffered a torn ACL and a torn MCL. He will miss the entire playoffs regardless of how far the Blackhawks make it. Head Coach Denis Savard announced that Nikolai Khabibulin will be the team's starting goaltender in the playoffs with Kevin Poulin as the backup.

End of season press conference highlights - Dale Tallon commented on the fact that he kept his promise and won the Blackhawks their first Stanley Cup in 48 years. - Denis Savard announced that following a successful season, he will be retiring from coaching to take more of a backseat role in the organization. - Tallon announced that Savard helped the Blackhawks immensely and will remain with the organization and a new Head Coach will be announced in the coming weeks. - Tallon complimented Corey Crawford on a spectacular season in net and wished him well in his recovery. - Tallon stated that the roster will remain relatively the same going into the next season bar a few changes.

New Head Coach announcedEarlier today, General Manager Dale Tallon announced that the new Head Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks is former Pittsburgh Penguins bench boss Michel Therrien. Therrien said that he is elated to be given this opportunity to continue the legacy that Denis Savard started.

BREAKING NEWS
Some huge breaking news coming out of Chicago today that sees Stanley Cup winning goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin released to the free agency. His contract was set to expire this season and GM Dale Tallon decided against resigning him in favor of the younger Corey Crawford and Kevin Poulin.
