Point of Divergence On February 12, 1999, William Jefferson Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, is no more as he is impeached on one count of perjury and one count of abuse of power. He is removed from office and Vice President Al Gore takes over as acting-President. One week later on February 19, 1999, Albert Arnold Gore, Jr. is inaugurated in as the 43rd President of the United States of America. This is where we begin.

March 20, 1999: Russian President Boris Yeltsin warns against NATO military action in Kosovo, threatens total war.
March 21, 1999: President Al Gore calls Yeltsin's bluff and states that if Kosovo won't resolve itself, military action will be required.
March 21, 1999: Dylan Klebolb is arrested for possession of marijuana.
March 23, 1999: John F. Kennedy, Jr. holds a rally in New York City where he claims that the United States should be free from corruption, lies and fear mongering and forms the Freedom Party.
March 25, 1999: Osama bin Laden discovered to be hiding somewhere in Afghanistan, President Gore backtracks on prior pledge of troops to Iraq and begins bombing campaign in Afghanistan.
March 31, 1999: President of Kosovo Slobodan Milosevic is killed when a NATO missile strikes Presidential palace. Russian President Yeltsin said to be furious.
April 3, 1999: Bob Dole declares candidacy for the Republican Party Presidential nomination.
April 5, 1999: Former President Bill Clinton holds rally endorsing Al Gore for President in 2000.
April 7, 1999: UN General Secretary Kofi Annan pleads with Russian President Yeltsin for peace in Kosovo and Chechnya.
April 8, 1999: Russian airstrikes hit North Caucus in Chechnya, whereabouts of President Dzhokhar Dudayev unknown.

April 12, 1999: Eric Harris detonates a pipe bomb in the cafeteria of Columbine High School before being arrested. 30 students were injured, some critically while 1 teacher was killed in the blast.
April 12, 1999: President Al Gore condemns the Columbine High School attack and promises to institute more help for mental health.
April 14, 1999: UN General Secretary Kofi Annan once again condemns Russian President Boris Yeltsin for his numerous attacks in Chechnya.
April 15, 1999: NATO forces enter Kosovo, Yeltsin is not at all pleased with this.
April 18, 1999: Former Texas Governor George W. Bush declares his candidacy for the Republican Presidential nomination.
April 26, 1999: Osama bin Laden releases video threatening to attack the United States if the airstrikes do not stop.
April 29, 1999: John F. Kennedy, Jr. is endorsed by Donald Trump for President, Trump states he will use all financial resources to finance the campaign.
May 3, 1999: Russian President Boris Yeltsin is found dead in Moscow, reportedly dying from a massive heart attack. Sergei Stepashin becomes the President of Russia and appoints Vladimir Putin as the new Prime Minister.
May 6, 1999: Stepashin makes a speech to the UN General Assembly apologizing for Yeltsin's past indiscretions and vows to help bring peace and stability to Kosovo.
May 8, 1999: Russian launches more airstrikes into Chechnya. President Al Gore demands Stepashin immediately cease airstrikes or face punishment.

May 10, 1999: Russian President Sergei Stepashin makes a speech regarding the war in Chechnya and claims that if the Chechans are not willing to work with Russia, Russia is not willing to work with them.
May 11, 1999: Interim leader of Chechnya Akhmad Kadyrov announces that he will be meeting with Stepashin regarding a peace agreement.
May 13, 1999: John F. Kennedy, Jr. continues his Presidential campaign and is currently leading in the polls.
May 14, 1999: UK Prime Minister Tony Blair announces that the UK are willing to join the US in a coalition to find Osama bin Laden. President Gore thanks Blair or his support.
May 15, 1999: Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien pledges his support for the coalition against bin Laden and the three countries (USA, Canada and the UK) begin launching airstrikes into Afghanistan. NATO approves.
May 24, 1999: A bomb explodes in a public mailbox in Los Angeles, Californa injuring a 24 year old pregnant woman. Police investigate.
May 27, 1999: A bomb explodes in a public mailbox in London, England injuring 3. Police are unsure of whether this is connected to the LA bomb.
May 31, 1999: A bomb explodes in a public mailbox in Ottawa, Ontario injuring 4, one critically. INTERPOL is called to investigate.
June 2, 1999: President Gore, Prime Ministers Blair and Chretien meet in Washington to discuss the bombings. A fourth bomb is found on Parliament Hill in Ottawa but is defused before it can explode.
June 3, 1999: Chechan leader Kadyrov and Russian President Stepashin announce terms of their peace agreement.
June 4, 1999: Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-GA) announce his bid for the Republican nomination.

June 5, 1999: UN General Secretary Kofi Annan applauds Russian and Chechnya's agreement. Pope John Paul II issues a statement calling for peace and announcing a papal visit to Russian in August.
June 10, 1999: Supreme Leader of North Korea Kim Jong-il announces that he will be pursuing nuclear weaponry upsetting the United Nations.
June 11, 1999: Osama bin Laden releases a video threatening widespread attacks in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom if the airstrikes do not cease. He also takes credit for the mailbox bombings.
June 13, 1999: Former Governor of Massachusetts and former Democratic Presidential nominee Michael Dukakis (D-MASS) declares his bid for the White House.
June 14, 1999: President Gore speaks to the nation and promises safety to every single American in the country from the threat of Al Qaeda. The same day, a bomb explodes on a bus in London, England killing 12 and injuring 30. Prime Minister Blair issues statement condemning attack and promising retaliation against Al Qaeda.
June 16, 1999: Canadian Prime Minister Chretien meets with Russian President Stepashin regarding the possibility of Russia joining the coalition.
June 17, 1999: A truck bomb rocks the Russian Embassy in Tripoli killing 41 and injuring at least 28 more. Russian President Stepashin takes this as an act of war and commits 5000 Russian troops to Libya by the end of 1999.
June 21, 1999: Televangelist Jerry Falwell proclaims that the bombings in Libya, Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom signify the end of days that will be sure to come at midnight on December 31, 1999.
June 23, 1999: At a JFK, Jr. campaign rally, a man is arrested when found in possession of a gun. It is unknown the extent of his plans.
June 29, 1999: The Russian invasion of Libya begins with a wave of 1500 troops entering and airstrikes beginning. President Gore is unsure what to think of this.
July 4, 1999: Independence Day celebrations are marred by tragedy when a bomb explodes in a mailbox in New York City, killing 1.
July 5, 1999: Pope John Paul II calls for peace in the Middle East and around the world ahead of his papal visit to Russia.

The rationale for the mailbox bombings is kind of to show that they are everywhere and can strike at any moment.

July 6, 1999: President Gore addresses the nation from the Oval Office and says that within the next week, coalition forces will be invading Afghanistan to catch Osama bin Laden and they will find him.
July 8, 1999: Queen Elizabeth addresses the United Kingdom and tells them that the government will do whatever it takes to destroy Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Prime Minister Blair is by her side.
July 12, 1999: Osama bin Laden releases a video threatening fire and death to all coalition countries.
July 13, 1999: American, Canadian and British forces enter Afghanistan.
July 14, 1999: Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi tells Russia that they must leave Libya immediately or face further attacks.
July 15, 1999: Joe Biden (D-DEL) announces his bid for the Democratic Presidential nomination.
July 17, 1999: John F. Kennedy, Jr. holds a rally in Orlando, Florida. A man throws an object at him which is later revealed to be a hand grenade that failed to explode.
July 18, 1999: Televangelist Jerry Falwell ramps up his end of the world prediction wanting money and goods from people. A lot comply.
July 21, 1999: It is rumored that Vladimir Putin is calling the shots for Stepashin but the Kremlin dismisses these rumors.
July 23, 1999: Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein shockingly promises to help the coalition forces find bin Laden.
July 27, 1999: The CIA receives confirmation of an impending large scale attack on the United States. The Department of Homeland Security is placed on high alert.
August 1, 1999: Pope John Paul II hosts his mass in Moscow, Russia. During said mass, a man in the crowd manages to fire two shots at the Pope, hitting him once in the arm. The Pope is rushed to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

I will be bringing this back but rather than focusing on the day-to-day events I will focus on elections (USA and Canada specifically) with a spritzing of big world events (terror attacks, high profile deaths, etc., etc.). First up is the official candidates list for the 2000 Presidential election.
