Season 1, Episode 1: Chapter 1
“I believe that America is a great land and that we cannot afford to let anyone tell us any differently!” shouts Congressman Michael Hewitt to a very large audience. “And that is why I am declaring my candidacy for President of the United States of America!” The crowd roars their approval as Michael waves to them. “Thank you and God bless the United States of America!” he shouts with a huge grin on his face as he gives a wave to the crowd and walks off stage where his campaign manager Jon McGregor and wife Katherine Hewitt are waiting for him.
“We most certainly got out ahead of the pack with announcing this soon,” states Jon matter of factly. Michael and Katherine both nod. “You don’t think it’ll turn around to bite us in the ass?” asks Katherine and Jon does a little bit of a shrug: “It could but this gives us all the more opportunity to go out and campaign, especially in Iowa.” Both Michael and Katherine nod their heads as Jon leads them to the bus and they are tailed by Secret Service agents who are now tasked with protecting this Presidential candidate. Michael and Katherine are both in their seats and Michael looks towards the camera: “You see, running for President is not something that simply want to do, it’s something that I need to do.” he states, coldly. “This country is going to hell and I’ll be damned if I let that happen.” Michael turns to his wife: “Would you like a drink, dear?” Katherine nods: “I’d love one.” Michael calls for drinks for the two of them and they begin enjoying them.
Cut to the Capitol Building where three members of the Democratic Leadership sit around an office watching the television which just finished broadcasting Michael’s speech. Randall Stamper, the House Majority Whip stands up and flicks the television off: “This guy is a junior Congressman and he’s running for President? What the hell is he thinking?” Sandra Torres just shakes her head: “Does he really expect to have the support of the Leadership? We need someone more experienced to be the President.” Frank Millstone stands up from leaning against the desk: “We can’t just write him off like that,” he states. “I see something in him.” Sandra and Randall just look at him in awe and begin listing all of the different reasons why Michael would not make a good President. Frank just shakes his head: “Listen here, I’ve seen what he can do, he beat one of the longest tenured Congressman ever in his district.” he states. “If anyone can be President, it’s him.” Randall and Sandra just sigh and don’t look too pleased: “It’ll take a lot more to convince me than that,” states Randall as the scene fades out.
Meanwhile, the incumbent President of the United States Robert Bosson is sitting in his study at the White House watching the speech on television. His Chief of Staff Leslie Boudreau enters: “Mr. President,” she says. President Bosson doesn’t even look at her: “Shh.” Leslie remains quiet until President Bosson finally flicks the television off and stands up: “What is it?” Leslie opens the folder that she has in her hands: “Israeli troops are moving into the Gaza Strip,” she states. “The Palestinians are not happy.” President Bosson takes the folder from Leslie and begins scanning through it: “Thank you Leslie, please have Jackie work on a statement, I want to put one out within the hour.” he states. Leslie nods and heads off as President Bosson leans against his desk and sighs deeply.
Jon is inside a diner wearing a baseball cap and brown jacket. He sits, apparently waiting for someone when a man comes and sits down next to him: “Dixon?” asks the man and Jon nods, using a fake name. “Do you have it?” asks Jon and the man slides an envelope across the table to him: “Do you have my money?” asks the man and Jon simply nods and slides an envelope of his own back across the table. The mystery man stands up and exits the diner as Jon grabs the envelope and opens it. In it are photographs of President Bosson with a mystery woman, who is not the First Lady entering a hotel room. Jon smirks and slides the photographs back into the envelope: “Perfect.” he whispers to himself before getting up and leaving the diner.
Michael is in his hotel room typing something on his laptop with the television on CNN in the background when it chimes in with the breaking news regarding the Gaza Strip. Michael closes his laptop and turns up the volume as Wolf Blitzer details what we currently know and says that the President is going to be speaking within the hour from the White House. Katherine enters the room and sees the television: “What’s that dear?” Michael looks to her and simply states: “Our opportunity.” Katherine is unsure of what he means and quizzes him on it and Michael proclaims that they can spin this into a positive for their campaign which Katherine, while hesitant at first, wholeheartedly agrees with. The two laugh together before passionately kissing which leads to the two having sex.
President Bosson enters the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room and approaches the podium where he begins his speech: “Good evening,” he says. “Just about an hour ago, we received information that Israeli soldiers were entering the Gaza Strip, which of course, has been claimed by Palestine and has been for many years.” he continues. “This is an unacceptable act of hostility and as a leader member of the United Nations, we cannot let this act go unpunished.” he says before pausing for a moment. “Although we are allies with the nation of Israel, we cannot let them get away with this and that is why as of this moment, the United States will be imposing economic sanctions on Israel until they scale back this military action that they have undertaken.” he matter of factly. “If Israel wants to continue these hostilities, further action will be taken. Unfortunately, we do not have time for questions this evening, thank you and God bless the United States of America.” he says before walking away from the podium and out of the Press Briefing Room. Leslie walks beside him as he makes his way back to the Oval Office: “We’ve just gotten confirmation that mortar strikes have been launched by the Palestinians,” she states somberly. President Bosson nods and continues walking, stone-faced back to the Oval Office.
The next day, Frank is in his office when his secretary lets him know that someone is there to see him. He opens the door and Michael greets him and the two shake hands: “May I come in?” asks Michael and Frank assures him that he can and offers him a seat. The two sit across from one another. “I can guess why you’re here?” says Frank and Michael just chuckles: “Of course, I want your endorsement,” he responds with a smile. Frank laughs to himself and stands up: “The rest of the Leadership don’t think that you have what it takes to be the President.” Michael just shakes his head: “I knew they wouldn’t, which is why I need you to work with me and help my campaign.” Frank paces across his office and stops at his desk where he leans against it for a moment before turning back around to face Michael: “Look, if you want to become President, we need to start working and we need to do it now.” he states. “This whole Gaza Strip fiasco is going to do a number on the President’s approval rating which will only serve to help you.” Michael nods: “I think we can do it Frank, and who knows, maybe there will be a spot open as my running mate.” Frank laughs and assures Michael that he will try to convince the rest of the Leadership to see what he sees and Michael thanks him before leaving the office with a satisfied smile on his face.
President Bosson is in the Oval Office sitting at the desk when Leslie enters: “Leslie, please get President Abadi on the line,” he instructs. “I must speak with him.” Leslie nods and puts the call through and we get a split screen of President Bosson and President Abadi in their respective offices: “Mr. President, did I wake you?” asks Bosson and Abadi assures him that he did not and wonders inquires as to what he is calling for. “Mr. President, I need you to stop the mortar strikes against Israel.” President Abadi refuses and states: “Until they remove themselves from our land, we will not cease our offensive against them.” President Bosson is very agitated and assures Abadi that he does not want any sanctions against his country and people and Abadi tells him that he must let him to whatever is best for his country before hanging up leaving Bosson looking nervous.
Meanwhile, Jon meets with Leann Woods, a reporter for USA Today in an alleyway. “You said you had something for me?” asks Leann and Jon nods as he hands her an envelope. She opens it and the photographs that Jon received earlier are inside. “You’re sure these are real?” Jon nods: “One hundred percent.” Leann smirks: “This will be an international headline by this time tomorrow.” Jon thanks her and walks off leaving her with the photos.

Season 1, Episode 2: Chapter 2
The episode opens with a CNN breaking news report showing the photographs of President Bosson with the mystery woman from the prior episode with Anderson Cooper intoning: “We do not know who this woman is, nor what her relation to the President is at this time. We will keep you updated when further information on this story comes to light.” Michael and Katherine are seen in their room watching this coverage and Michael smirks to himself and looks into the camera: “Sometimes in politics, you have to get a little bit dirty.”
Meanwhile, President Bosson is in shock at the news reports and tabloid articles he is seeing and Leslie enters his study: “Mr. Presi-” President Bosson cuts her off and puts his head in his hands: “How?” he mutters. Leslie reassures him that they will spin this in a way that will ensure he comes out looking good. President Bosson stands up from his sofa and approaches Leslie: “If they find out who is in that photo, we’re both going to be ripped to shreds, Leslie.” Leslie nods and the President continues with: “Olivia will not be pleased; I must go speak with her immediately. Leslie nods and reassures the President that they will do whatever they can to make sure this doesn’t derail the campaign.
Michael is in his office at the Capitol Building when there is a knock at the door and Jon enters: “Great to see you came through for me,” says Michael with a smile. Jon just laughs it off and proclaims that President Bosson is most certainly reeling now. Michael gets up from his desk and peers out the window and sees the White House: “In 11 months, I will be in that house,” he states with conviction. “You’re goddamn right you are!” cries Jon. “But first, we have an event in Iowa tomorrow so I need you and Katherine to pack your things, the caucus is just over a month away and we have no time to waste!” Michael nods and thanks Jon for his help thus far in the campaign and Jon says that he will love to be the Chief of Staff once Michael becomes President and Michael replies with a simple smirk as Jon exits the office.
Down the hallway, Sandra is in her office going through paperwork when Frank enters: “Can I speak with you for a few moments?” Sandra just sighs and tells him to come in: “This is about Michael isn’t it?” she asks. Frank reluctantly tells her that it is but tells her that she needs to listen because it is very important and the two discuss the prospect of Michael becoming President: “Listen, I’m going to be honest with you,” Frank says. “He offered me a spot as his running mate.” Sandra is shocked and quizzes Frank as to why he never told her sooner and Frank admits that he didn’t want anyone to know yet until he had the Leadership backing Michael. Sandra finally relents on her stance and assures Frank that he has her support but that Randall will not be as easy: “You know him, he’s set in his ways,” she says, with a small chuckle.
Katherine is working in her office at her home when there is knock at the front door. She opens it and Leann from USA Today is standing with a smile on her face: “May I come in?” she asks and Katherine nods: “Of course you can, Leann!” Katherine leads Leann into the house and offers her a seat at the kitchen table and she sits down. “Would you like tea? Coffee?” asks Katherine and Leann says that she will take a cup of tea and Katherine prepares it for her and sits down. “So first, I wanted to thank you for what you did,” says Katherine with conviction, not sounding like she feels any guilt at all. Leann nods and Katherine continues by stating: “Michael and I want you to be our Press Secretary when we make it to the White House.” Katherine smiles. “If you make it to the White House,” Leann retorts and Katherine’s smile fades slightly. “WHEN we make it to the White House, we will make you our Press Secretary.” she states, slightly angered. “I apologize, Mrs. Hewitt, but have you thought about what could happen if you lose?” Katherine just shakes her head: “That’s not something that we have discussed because there’s no way that after what we leaked, we will lose. Couple that with the Gaza Strip and it’s a perfect storm for a new leader.” Leann finishes her tea soon after and thanks Katherine for being so hospitable and Katherine says that they will see each other soon. Leann exits the house and as she walks down the sidewalk, she pulls a tape recorder out of her pocket and presses play, the words of Katherine saying “After what we leaked” echo as Leann looks determined.
President Bosson is in the Oval Office, having not made a public appearance since the photographs surfaced. He is reading through some papers when the intercom comes on: “Sir, President Abadi is on the line.” President Bosson tells his secretary to put him through and he picks up the phone: “Mr. President, it is great to hear from you.” President Abadi lets Bosson know that this is going to be a brief conversation and lets him know that he can place any sanctions on him that he wants because the Palestinians are being backed by Russia in this matter. President Bosson is flabbergasted and tries to talk his way back into Abadi’s good graces but Abadi hangs up on him. President Bosson slams the phone down: “GODDAMNIT!” He puts his head in his hands and breathes heavily.
Randall is walking through the Capitol Building when Michael approaches him with a sly smirk on his face. Randall greets him and quizzes him on what he wants and Michael responds with: “You know exactly what I want Randall.” Randall just looks at him with an angry look on his face: “Look Michael, I don’t have time for your games. There’s more important matters at hand.” Michael just chuckles which makes Randall even angrier. “More important than the Leader of the Free World?” asks Michael, sarcastically. Randall stops walking and looks Michael straight in the face: “I’ve had enough of you. Let me do my job and you do yours. We’ll speak later.” Randall begins walking away again as Michael simply laughs to himself.
President Bosson is in the Oval Office when Press Secretary Jackie Sinclair enters: “Mr. President, I have a statement prepared for you. We are going to nip this scandal in the bud.” she states. President Bosson smiles at her: “Thank you Jackie, I’m going to get Leslie to brief you on the Gaza Strip conflict and please prepare something for me.” Jackie nods and heads out of the office as President Bosson prepares to make his statement to the press.
Leann is at the offices of USA Today sitting at her desk when her boss approaches her and lets her know that somebody is there to see her and she heads over to the waiting area where the man who sold the photographs to Jon is sitting. Leann has no idea who he is but sits down beside him: “Do I know you?” she asks. The man shakes his head no: “You don’t, and I won’t tell you my name but I have information for you.” Leann is intrigued and inquires as to what it is and the man replies with: “The woman in the photographs, that’s his Chief of Staff,” he says. “That’s Leslie Boudreau.” Leann is shocked and the man gets up to leave but Leann follows after him. “WAIT!” she calls but the elevator door closes and he is gone. Leann heads back to her desk and her boss asks what that was all about but she says that it was nothing and gets back to work, but the look on her face screams that she has no idea what to do with the information that she has just received which could effectively end Robert Bosson’s tenure as President of the United States
