In January 2006, Rey Mysterio shocked the world when he won the annual Royal Rumble match after entering at the #2 position and last eliminating Randy Orton. It's been 10 years since this amazing victory from Mysterio and a lot has happened which I will examine in great detail...with a twist. This will be a wrestling alternate history spanning 10 years from 2006-2016 with the point of divergence being the 2006 Royal Rumble. Stay tuned because there will be some crazy storylines, moments and history unfolding in front of your very eyes!

Brief Rundown of How This Will Work
10 years is a lot of time, although most of it feels like it was yesterday. Now, I will not be posting weekly episodes of Raw and Smackdown because that would take far too much time and my goal is to cover as much ground as humanly possible in this. With that being said, this will be in the form of lists. I will be counting down a variety of different subjects within these articles including:
25 Greatest Wrestlers of the Past 10 Years 10 Biggest Moments of the Past 10 Years 10 Greatest Wrestlers Who Never Became World Champion of the Past 10 Years 10 Most Controversial Moments of the Past 10 Years 15 Greatest Tag Teams of the Past 10 Years 10 Greatest Pay-Per-Views of the Past 10 Years 10 Greatest Women's Wrestlers of the Past 10 Years 10 Greatest Feuds/Storylines of the Past 10 Years 10 Most Shocking Moments of the Past 10 Years
There may be a few extra ones thrown in there but that is the list as of this moment so stay tuned!

10 Greatest Women's Wrestlers of the Past 10 Years#10: Charlotte FlairWhile she is still relatively new to the women's division of the WWE having made her grand debut in early 2015, Charlotte has already made a huge impact in the division by winning the Women's Championship in said debut. There is no question that Charlotte is the future of the women's division and it has been shown very early on in her career.Following her debut, she was immediately thrust into a feud with AJ Lee after defeating her to win the Women's title. This feud would last for months and fans would call it the modern day Trish Stratus vs. Lita feud with both women exchanging title victories until the feud came to a head at SummerSlam 2015 in a match that fans are calling one of the greatest women's matches of all time, which Charlotte would be victorious in to claim her 3rd Women's Championship, a title she still holds to this day, nearly a year later. It is not strange to think that the daughter of "The Nature Boy" is revolutionizing the industry much like her father once did so for that her inclusion on the list is no question. Charlotte is expected to continue her meteoric rise and may eventually end up as one of the greatest women's wrestlers of all time.#9: Mickie JamesMickie James made a huge impact upon her debut in the WWE immediately becoming embroiled in a feud with then Women's Champion Trish Stratus in what was seen as a passing of the torch feud which saw Mickie win the Women's title at Backlash of 2006. Fans and critics alike saw Mickie as being the "new" Trish Stratus and she was seemingly destined for greatness.Following the feud with Stratus, Mickie embarked on a feud with Lita and the two put on some great matches which led to Mickie losing the Women's Championship at SummerSlam of 2006. Mickie would not be deterred as she would go on to claim the Women's Championship once again in late 2006 and hold it until an untimely injury in mid-2007 that would force her to retire from the sport.Although Mickie James was forced to retire from the sport of professional wrestling after having only been a WWE diva for a little over a year, she certainly made a huge impact and she continues to play a role within the WWE after having become the very first female commentator in the company's history.#8: Michelle McCool/The Woman in WhiteMichelle McCool's WWE career began in earnest in mid-2006 when she would become the manager of KC James and Idol Stevens and would lead them to a reign as WWE Tag Team Champions before turning on them and costing them the titles before embarking on her own journey in the women's division. As she was on the Smackdown brand, she never really had the chance to become the Women's Champion but she made the most of it going undefeated until being drafted to Raw in the summer of 2008.On the Raw brand, McCool immediately made an impact going after then Women's Champion Beth Phoenix and the two had a series of matches throughout the autumn of 2008 and McCool was never able to become the Women's Champion. Following this, McCool had several feuds with women such as Maria Kanellis, Candice Michelle and Gail Kim in which she showed the world why she wasn't just another pretty face.In early 2010, McCool disappeared from WWE programming but made her re-debut during the summer as "The Woman in White" and accompanied her real-life husband The Undertaker during the ring for his matches before retiring in mid-2011. Although McCool was never able to claim the Women's Championship during her career in the WWE she made waves and was the first woman to ever manage The Undertaker which earns her the #8 spot on the list.#7: Gail KimGail Kim made her return to the WWE in 2008 and was immediately thrust back into the spotlight in the Women's division with a feud over the Women's title between her and reigning champion Beth Phoenix but she would be unsuccessful in recapturing the gold that she first won all the way back in 2002. She would then become injured and spend a lot of 2009 on the shelf but made her return very late in the year to defeat Melina to become the Women's Champion. She would reign as the Women's Champion for much of the year until her former TNA rival, Awesome Kong, now under the name Kharma made her WWE debut and won the title and would hold it for over 2 years. Following the loss, Kim would still work in the women's division and put on some fantastic matches with the likes of Michelle McCool, Melina, Candice Michelle, etc.In 2011, Kim elected to take a role in WWE's developmental territory and is known for training two of WWE's most promising female prospects, Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks. While not as dominant in the women's division as some, Kim made her mark on the WWE following her return and will forever be in the history books.
#6: Kaitlyn
The debut of Kaitlyn came in sort of a transitional period for the WWE in terms of their women's division as she debuted in early 2012 when Kharma and Beth Phoenix were both dominating the division and no one else seemed like they would be top them but Kaitlyn is known for trying her absolute hardest and showed everyone, not only the WWE Universe, but WWE officials that she could be a reliable star and was not afraid to do whatever it took to get to the top.
Her first major feud came against Beth Phoenix which she came out victorious in before moving on to face Kharma who she would go on to lose against. After this, she kind of moved around the division and feuded with many before becoming embroiled in an incredibly compelling feud against AJ Lee in which both women showed that they are more than just "divas" and can tear down the house just like the men can.
While Kaitlyn has yet to win a Women's Championship, it is certain that she will have a reign before her career finishes as she continues to show what she is made of in the ring and out of it.
#5: Victoria
The stretch from 2006 to 2009 was rather quiet for Victoria as she kind of remained in the shadows but following Gail Kim's injury in 2009, it was once again her time to reign supreme in the Women's division. She won a battle royal to become the #1 contender to the Women's Championship before defeating Beth Phoenix to claim the title which she would hold for several months before losing it back to Phoenix and the two would feud over the championship until Melina became involved and became the champion.
Following the loss of the Women's Championship, Victoria would move on to have smaller feuds with Maria Kanellis, Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson before becoming embroiled in a very heated feud with Kharma in late 2010 and early 2011 in which Kharma beat her in a Loser Leaves WWE match and sent Victoria packing but Victoria joined the developmental territory as a trainer where she remains to this day.
Victoria's contributions to women's wrestling in the past 10 years have been numerous as she has been a permanent fixture of the division while helping the younger talent learn the ropes and get comfortable in the business.
#4: Paige/Sister Abigail
Paige is forever known as the woman that ended Kharma's second, almost two year, reign as the Women's Champion upon her debut in early 2014. Paige would not hold the title for very long as AJ Lee would swoop in and steal at a live event following WrestleMania. Paige was not done there though as she continued to work her way through the women's division in an attempt to once again reclaim her championship but would be unsuccessful many times throughout the summer of 2014 before disappearing from WWE television before returning as Sister Abigail, a member of The Wyatt Family.
Upon her debut as Sister Abigail, she became extremely violent and dominant within the division and destroyed pretty much everyone before winning the Women's Championship from Nikki Bella at the 2014 Survivor Series event before losing it to AJ Lee once again. Sister Abigail continued inflicting pain and suffering on the other women of the roster and was embroiled in a very heated feud with The Bella Twins in which she would come out on top.
Soon after The Bella Twins rivalry, in the autumn of 2015, the Sister Abigail storyline fizzled out and she returned as Paige once again and has since begun a feud with the debuting Sasha Banks and the two have had a series of close to 5 star matchups which are expected to continue throughout 2016.
#3: Beth Phoenix
Beth Phoenix debuted in mid-2006 and made an impact right away as she was an extremely dominant force and was soon in contention for the Women's Championship which she won for the first time in late 2007 and held it until late 2008. She was dominant for her entire first reign as the Women's Champion but she would win it back again shortly thereafter but lost it again to Melina in a triple threat match also featuring Victoria.
Following her loss of the Women's Championship, Phoenix had a brief hiatus from the company but soon returned to end Kharma's first 2 year reign as Women's Champion and the two had a fantastic feud which saw Kharma win it back shortly after to hold the championship for almost another 2 years. Phoenix would then have a short feud with Kaitlyn before electing to retire to focus on her family.
Phoenix's run in the WWE was a phenomenal one and she has been compared to "The Ninth Wonder of the World" Chyna which Phoenix says is a great honor.
#2: AJ Lee
AJ Lee made her debut in very late 2011 and most people thought she was simply just a flash in the pan and would not amount to anything but that simply was not the case as she proved, and is still proving that one day she will be a WWE Hall of Famer. She had various feuds for about 3 years, most notably with her friend Kaitlyn which was one of the most compelling feuds of the decade before finally claiming the Women's Championship from Paige in 2014.
She would then feud with Nikki Bella and lose the Women's Championship but regain it a few months later against Sister Abigail in a match that some call the greatest women's match of all time and she would hold the championship until losing it to Charlotte before winning it, losing it, winning it and losing it again at SummerSlam 2015. AJ Lee's 4 reigns as Women's Champion have been called some of the best reigns the championship has ever seen.
AJ Lee is still an active member of the women's division but has stated that her time within the company may soon be coming to an end and even if it does, she is a surefire first ballot Hall of Famer when the time comes around.
#1: Kharma
Was there ever really any question as to who would be #1? I don't think so. Kharma has been involved in some of the best matches and feuds that the women's division has ever seen ranging from feuds with Victoria to feuds with Beth Phoenix. She has held the Women's Championship for a combined time of almost 4 years, and she only held the championship twice! She may just be the most dominant woman that has ever stepped foot inside a WWE ring.
After defeating Gail Kim in 2010, Kharma ran through the entire women's division before Beth Phoenix returned and claimed the title, ending the 2 year reign. Shortly after, however, Kharma regained the championship and once again held it for 2 years before losing it to the debuting Paige in one of the most shocking upsets of all time. Kharma would proceed to disappear from WWE television and has since retired from the sport.
If one thing is for certain, Kharma will be a Hall of Famer when the time comes and she is one of, if not the most dominant woman's wrestler to ever step foot inside the squared circle.

10 Biggest Moments of the Past 10 Years#10: Brock Lesnar returnsJune 12, 2012After running through the UFC's heavyweight division for almost 4 years, Brock Lesnar made his long awaited return to the WWE on the June 12, 2012 edition of Monday Night Raw. In the weeks leading up to Lesnar's return, cryptic promos were aired aimed at the incumbent WWE Champion Triple H who would call the person targeting him a coward. That was until "The Beast" returned and absolutely demolished the champion. In the weeks following, Lesnar would demand a shot at the championship until he was finally given a shot at that year's SummerSlam pay-per-view where he would become the WWE Champion once again.Brock Lesnar held the WWE Championship for almost a year before dropping it but he still remained, and still remains a force to be reckoned with on the WWE roster, having feuds with the likes of Kane, John Cena, Batista and many more. His second tenure with the WWE has been a much more successful one than his first run.One thing is for certain, if Brock Lesnar had not returned, the landscape of the WWE would look vastly different then it does today.#9: Wade Barrett wins the WWE Championship in his home countryAugust 14, 2011In 1992, the WWE decided to take one of their Big 4 pay-per-views, SummerSlam across the pond to Wembley Stadium for what was arguably their greatest pay-per-view in the storied history of the country and 19 years later, in 2011, they decided to take the chance and do it again and they had the perfect person to market the event around, Wade Barrett who would win the WWE Championship in front of a sell-out crowd at Wembley Stadium after a lengthy feud with champion CM Punk.Barrett's feud with CM Punk began the night after WrestleMania 27 where Barrett proclaimed that he would become the WWE Champion sooner, rather than later and the two engaged in a battle of words each and every week. Vince McMahon forced Barrett to earn his spot as #1 contender and Barrett handily won the King of the Ring tournament of 2011, thus solidifying his spot as #1 contender. When the pay-per-view rolled around, Barrett and Punk went back and forth and Barrett finally managed to hit the Wasteland to claim his first ever WWE Championship, in front of his friends, family and fellow Englishmen and women.Barrett's championship victory in 2011 was one of the most emotional moments in recent WWE history as he finally achieved his dream and did it at home.#8: The Straight Edge Society takes over RawMay 18, 2009In early 2009, CM Punk returned from injury and had a new mindset, he was going to convert everyone to straight edge and would do anything to make it happen. He recruited Serena Deeb and Luke Gallows (formerly Festus) and the team would run roughshod over the tag team division for several months, including a run as World Tag Team Champions. Soon after losing the tag tea titles, CM Punk and his "Straight Edge Society" decided that it was time for a drastic move and they took over Raw after taking General Manager William Regal hostage. The Society ran Raw with an iron fist, including giving CM Punk a shot at the WWE Championship against John Cena, which he would unfortunately lose. Later in the night, the police arrived at the arena and arrested the members of the Society and William Regal would "suspend" them and Serena Deeb was never heard from again while Gallows and Punk would have another successful run in the tag team division until mid-2010 when Punk would set off on his own. This moment (or night I suppose) marked the beginning of The Ruthless Aggression Era 2.0 as the WWE would become a much edgier product on par with the 2002-2005 run from the company.#7: Chris Jericho wins the Royal Rumble matchJanuary 27, 2013For years, Chris Jericho was seen as one of the greatest to never win the Royal Rumble match, although he had his fair share of success without it but that all changed on a cold night in January of 2013 when Chris Jericho outlasted 29 other men to win his first ever Royal Rumble match, almost 14 years after making his debut in the company. While many were overjoyed that Jericho had won the match, a few were upset that a younger star wasn't given the nod. Many say that this Royal Rumble match marked a downturn for the annual event as the next several years saw some rather unsavory victors. While this victory was yet another accomplishment that Jericho could add to his impressive Hall of Famer career, he was unable to become the World Heavyweight Champions at WrestleMania 29 and would soon retire from the wrestling business.Chris Jericho's legacy did not really benefit from winning the Royal Rumble match but it was a very heartwarming moment to see him finally do it after trying for so many years.#6: Bret Hart gets revenge on Vince McMahonNovember 18, 2007In November of 1997, depending on how you look at it, Vince screwed Bret or Bret screwed Bret but when Bret Hart was inducted into the 2006 WWE Hall of Fame, fans knew there was something coming. Bret and Vince had actually been on speaking terms for a few years prior to the 2006 Hall of Fame and about a year after the ceremony, Bret appeared on WWE television for the first time in almost 10 years and cut a scathing promo on the Chairman of the Board, this led to one of the most heated rivalries that actually had a little bit of personal animosity. With Bret still recovering from a stroke that he suffered in 2002, Bret's mobility was still rather limited but nonetheless an Unsanctioned Street Fight was booked for Survivor Series that year, 10 years after that fateful night in Montreal. The match wasn't a barnburner by any means but Bret absolutely destroyed and bloodied Vince with chair shot after chair shot until he finally locked in the Sharpshooter and Vince passed out from the pain and blood loss.A satisfying moment for fans of Bret Hart, or just those that hated Vince McMahon happened on that night in November 2007 as Bret finally got revenge, 10 years after he was screwed by the boss.#5: Triple H breaks Ric Flair's recordJanuary 27, 2013Triple H broke out on his own after winning the WWE Championship for the first time in the summer of 1999 but nobody could have ever imagined that he would break the record of most World championship reigns which was held by his former mentor Ric Flair but that's exactly what happened. At the Royal Rumble in 2013, Triple H would win his 17th World Championship by defeating the World Heavyweight Champion John Cena in what was a very emotional match that saw Ric Flair at the commentary desk for the duration of the match. The following night on Raw, a celebration occurred where Triple H reminisced on all of his championship reigns before having a heartwarming moment with his former mentor Ric Flair. Fans thought that Triple H had finally turned a corner and would be a babyface but he turned on, and bloodied, Flair before calling himself the greatest of all time.Triple H firmly cemented himself in the wrestling history books forever when he won his 17th World Championship, a feat which may never be topped as the closest person is John Cena with 9 World titles who has since retired but more on that a little later.#4: Rey Mysterio wins the WWE ChampionshipAugust 20, 2006Rey Mysterio won the Royal Rumble match in 2006 but was unsuccessful when he challenged Kurt Angle in the main event of WrestleMania 22 but Mysterio was not done at the top as he would go on to be drafted to the Raw brand in June of 2006 where he was immediately thrust back to the top after winning the King of the Ring tournament and going on to face, and defeat incumbent WWE Champion John Cena at that year's SummerSlam event.Mysterio's reign as champion did not last long as he was soon defeated by Edge who cashed in the Money in the Bank contract which he had won for the second consecutive year earlier in 2006 but the emotions after winning the championship that his best friend, the late Eddie Guerrero, won 2 years prior was enough to make even the manliest wrestling fan cry like a baby.Mysterio's championship victory marked a change in the way the main event scene worked as you no longer had to be a musclebound meat head to make it to the top.#3: John Cena retiresAugust 18, 2014Throughout the spring of 2014, John Cena promised to take on all comers and was brutally assaulted by former WWE Champion Wade Barrett who would go on to proclaim that he would end John Cena's career and the two would continue to feud throughout the summer months leading into a Career vs. Career match at SummerSlam in which Barrett would come out victorious in. The night following the historic loss saw members of the WWE roster thank John Cena for his contributions and how he paved the way for them as well as members of the WWE Universe chiming in with their thoughts on the career of "The Cenation Leader". All in all, the night of John Cena's retirement was an incredibly emotional night for all of those in attendance and those who had been watching at home.John Cena's retirement signifying the changing of the guard as young wrestlers such as Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins stepped up and began their ascent into the main event scene after one of the greatest wrestlers of the past 10 years was forced to retire.#2: CM Punk suffers a career ending injuryJune 13, 2015In June of 2015, CM Punk suffered one of the most horrifying injuries ever witnessed on live television. During a match with Roman Reigns, Punk launched himself over the top rope but caught his foot on the top rope and landed head first on the floor and immediately went limp. Fans were in shocked and some were crying as EMTs rushed to the ring and the commentators tried to remain calm and let us know that this was not part of the action here tonight. Punk was soon carted to the back and rushed to a local hospital. The next week on Raw, an announcement was made that CM Punk suffered an extremely severe concussion and ruptured a disk which fragmented into his spinal column and he would be forced to retire immediately. About a month later, Punk appeared via satellite to thank the fans for the years of support and assure them that he was doing well.Following Punk's injury, a lot of highflying was kept to a minimum for a few months before essentially returning back to normal. As of 2016, CM Punk has recovered but doctors suggest that he never wrestle again for fear he could become completely paralyzed.#1: Batista ends the streakMarch 30, 2008
Nobody could have ever imagined that The Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania would ever come to an end but at WrestleMania 24, inside of the dreaded Hell in a Cell structure, "The Animal" Batista retained his World Heavyweight Championship by pinning The Undertaker to the mat for the 1,2,3 for the very first time at WrestleMania which shocked the world and was seen throughout magazine covers and covered on CNN and Fox News. Following the loss, The Undertaker would disappear for two years before returning in 2010 to confront Batista and get some revenge, defeating him inside the Hell in a Cell at that year's SummerSlam pay-per-view but the one thing he could never get back was the undefeated streak at WrestleMania. One thing is for certain, the WrestleMania streak was one of the greatest in history that will likely never be matched and the end of it was something that those in attendance and those watching live at home will never forget for as long as they live.

Oh yes!!!! I mean, wow!! Was that '10 Biggest Moments' or '10 Most Shocking Moments'?! First, Batista ending the Streak over Lesnar, was probably the best move, to give Batista that credibility. I love HHH and Barrett's success of winning titles, while not loving Rey so much lol... CM Punk and John Cena's retirements came as a stunning move, but more importantly, you got the dates right having Cena retire before Punk, because I'm sure if Punk went down first, Cena would've stayed. Good booker my friend!! Looking forward to the next installment.
