Shane McMahon starts the show in the ring, as he says last week on SmackDown, Seth Rollins earned the #1 Contendership to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Battleground. Unfortunately, he says, Seth Rollins suffered an injury on Raw that will keep him out of the match at Battleground. So, he says, tonight, they will be deciding a new #1 Contender. He says tonight’s main event will be a 20 Man Battle Royal, with the winner challenging for Roman Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Roman Reigns’ theme hits, as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion comes out, and he enters the ring, confronting Shane McMahon. Reigns says he doesn’t care who he has to face at Battleground, saying it could be anyone. He says he would still win the match, retain his title. He says it could have been Seth Rollins, it could be AJ Styles, or Dean Ambrose, to Kevin Owens, or Finn Bálor. He says it doesn’t matter. Shane announces that it could be any of those men, as they will all be in the battle royal. Reigns says he’ll be watching the battle royal, and says whoever wins will not leave Battleground as the champion.
After a commercial break, The Ascension are standing in the ring, as Enzo and Cass’ theme hit. They rush out onto the stage, as Enzo performs his entrance routine. Enzo then turns his attention to The Ascension, as he says that The Ascension have been nothing but a flop since arriving to Raw and SmackDown. He says that Konnor doesn’t look like a demon, he looks like a mouse. He then says Viktor is just a wannabe Road Warrior. Cass then calls The Ascension SAWFT.

The Golden Truth are shown backstage, talking to each other. Goldust says they need to get themselves into a match soon, saying he’s starting to feel the rust. Truth looks closely at Goldust, as he says he thinks he can see some rust. Goldust looks upset, as he barks that its his face paint. Truth apologizes, as Goldust says they need to talk to a McMahon. They then walk off.
Apollo Crews vs. Big Show Crews and Show had a test strength in the match, which was surprisingly won by Crews. Crews, however, struggles to lift Show throughout the match. In the end, Crews is hit by a KO Punch from Show, but he ends up out of the ring, being given time to recover. Show follows him out and throws him back in, going for the pin, but Crews kicks out. Show sets up for another KO Punch, but Crews ducks under the punch and finally gets Show up, and slams him down. Crews hits a standing moonsault and gets the win.

Luke Gallows then says that they beat The New Day on Raw, and says when they get their shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship, they’ll do it again. Karl Anderson says he’s tired of seeing The New Day sully championship gold with every action they take, and says they will be the next tag team champions.
Paige vs. Summer Rae Paige and Summer have a good match, where in the end, Paige is able to counter a cross body attempt into the RamPaige, and cover for the win.

Rusev and Lana are shown backstage, as Rusev laughs at Miz’s won. Rusev says he’s beaten Titus O’Neil, and says its not hard to do. Rusev says at Battleground, he will crush Miz, and will still be the United States Champion.
Renee Young interviews Roman Reigns, and asks about Seth Rollins. He says he feels bad for Rollins, and that he never wishes an injury on anybody. However, he says Rollins’ injury opens an opportunity for someone else to become champion. He says he doesn’t care who wins tonight’s battle royal, whether it be Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, or anyone, he will leave Battleground as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Jericho mocks them as well, as Bray Wyatt suddenly appears at ringside, distracting Jericho. Kevin Owens comes from behind Jericho and dumps him over, as Dean Ambrose then does the same to Owens, winning the match.

Shane and Stephanie McMahon are in the ring, as Stephanie introduces Raw, and Shane announces something special that they’ve decided on for tonight. Stephanie says in the spirit of Independence Day, they will be holding a USA vs. International series tonight. There will be 7 matches tonight, all of which will feature a US citizen against an International citizen. After the main event, the winner of the series will be decided. Shane says that both sides have some great talent, with John Cena and AJ Styles being just part of the United States side, while Kevin Owens and Rusev will be parts of the International side.
A graphic is shown, promoting the return of Neville, which will be next.
Curtis Axel (USA) w/ The Social Outcasts vs. Neville (International) Neville doesn’t have any problems in his return, and looks just as good as he did before his injury, taking out Curtis Axel pretty quickly with the Red Arrow. (USA 0 - 1 International)
Shane and Stephanie McMahon are shown backstage, discussing the brand split. They get a knock at their door, and in walks the Golden Truth. Goldust says they haven’t had a match in a while, and says they would love to represent the United States tonight. Stephanie tells them that all the matches are set for tonight. R-Truth begs for a match, and Shane tells them that they’ll get a match on SmackDown. Golden Truth go to hug Shane, but he holds them back. Truth then thanks him, and they leave.
The Vaudevillians are shown backstage, as Aiden English say that while they have failed in their conquest to attain the WWE Tag Team Championship, they will not doubt themselves. Simon Gotch says that they will continue their chase for championship gold, and they will once and for all prove that the Bygone Era is superior the the New Era.
Titus O’Neil (USA) vs. Finn Bálor Bálor is still getting used to the main roster, and it’s evident here. He struggles against Titus O’Neil’s obvious advantage in size and strength. Bálor, however, wins the match after a Coup de Grâce to O’Neil. (International) (USA 0 - 2 International)
Renee Young interviews Miz and Maryse. She asks about Rusev. Miz says Rusev will never beat an A-Lister. Renee asks Maryse how she’ll handle tonight, with Miz representing America, and her being Canadian. Maryse says she doesn’t care what happens, as long as her man wins.
Apollo Crews is backstage, as he says that when he finally gets in the ring with Sheamus, he will beat him, and he will show Sheamus exactly why he can’t keep up with The New Era.
Dolph Ziggler (USA) vs. Rusev (International) w/ Lana Ziggler looks to get the first point for Team USA in the night by defeating the United States Champion. However, Rusev proves to be too much for Ziggler this time, as Rusev ends the match with The Accolade, forcing Ziggler to tap out. (USA 0 - 3 International)
Roman Reigns comes out to the ring, and he says that at this time last week, he was expecting to face Seth Rollins at Battleground. Now, however, he says he’s expecting to face Dean Ambrose. He says he could be facing anyone at Battleground, and says that he will still leave as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Dean Ambrose’s theme hits, and he comes out, saying that he’s not going to let his opportunity at the title slip by, saying that he’s always been close to winning the title, but never could. He says he was close at Survivor Series, but lost to Reigns. He says he was close in the Royal Rumble match, when he was the last man eliminated. He says he was close at Roadblock, and had even had it won, but didn’t. He says he even had Seth Rollins beat for the title, but was screwed out of it. Ambrose says he won’t let this opportunity pass him by, and says he’ll do whatever he has to do to leave as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Kevin Owens’ theme hits, and he comes out, saying that he doesn’t care who wins the title match. He says as long as there’s an opportunity to become the champion, he will cash in Money in the Bank. He says it could be on Roman Reigns, or it could be on Dean Ambrose. He says he can make sure neither of them walks out of Battleground as the champion. Seth Rollins’ theme hits, to everyone’s surprise, and he walks out with a crutch. Standing on the stage, Rollins says his injury is just another setback on his road to becoming the champion again. Rollins says Reigns purposely injured him last week, because he was scared of facing him at Battleground. He says whoever leaves Battleground as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion will just be keeping the title warm for him.
A video package is shown, promoting Brock Lesnar’s fight against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 on Sunday.
Charlotte (USA) vs. Becky Lynch (International) Becky and Charlotte counter each other’s signature moves multiple times throughout the match, knowing each other very well. Cena says Corbin is just a guy, and he’s trying to beat THE guy. Cena says at Battleground, he’ll show Corbin exactly why he’s the best, and has been for 12 years.
The Bálor Club are shown backstage, as Bálor says that AJ Styles represents a former leader who didn’t have what it took to be a leader. He says thats why he joined WWE, saying that AJ just wasn’t good enough to lead men like Gallows and Anderson, and says that he is just the man to be a leader. He says that when Luke and Karl were trying to recruit AJ, that he knew that if he joined The Club, that they would be unstoppable. Finn then says that without AJ, they’ll still be unstoppable, and says that Battleground is the place to show that to the world.
The Miz (USA) w/ Maryse vs. Cesaro (International) Miz and Cesaro go back and forth in this match, as Miz looks to keep Cesaro away from his title, and pick up a win for Team USA in the process. Miz is hit by a pop-up European Uppercut, and Cesaro looks for the pin. After a 2 count, Cesaro looks for the Cesaro Swing. Maryse climbs onto the apron and yells at Cesaro in French. Cesaro talks back to her in French, but this distraction lasted long enough for Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale and get the win. (USA 2 - International 3)
After Miz and Maryse go backstage, Cesaro is still recovering in the ring. Alberto Del Rio enters the ring and assaults Cesaro, stomping away at him, before locking in the Cross Armbreaker in on Cesaro’s surgically repaired shoulder. Referees try to get Del Rio off of Cesaro, but he keeps the hold in on Cesaro. After eventually breaking the hold, Del Rio stands over Cesaro, as doctors check on him.
JoJo is shown backstage, and she announces her guest to be Chris Jericho. JoJo asks Jericho about his USA vs. International series match against Dean Ambrose. Jericho says he will get the winning point for the International side, by defeating Dean Ambrose. Jericho also says that when he beats Ambrose, he’ll have to be given a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. JoJo then asks if he thinks Bray Wyatt will interfere. Jericho says Bray Wyatt is the reason he’s not the #1 Contender right now, and says he doesn’t care if Wyatt decides he wants to attack, saying that he’ll make sure Wyatt gets whats coming to him.
Dean Ambrose (USA) vs. Chris Jericho (International) Jericho looks to get the winning point for the International side in this match, while Dean looks to keep Team USA in the running. Ambrose is able to hit Jericho with a Dirty Deeds, but Chris kicks out at two. Ambrose decides to pick Jericho off the mat and go for a second Dirty Deeds, but Jericho pulls Ambrose’s legs out and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Ambrose crawls his way to the ropes, and is able to grab hold. Jericho lets go of the hold at 4, and looks to finish things with the Codebreaker. Ambrose stands, and Jericho goes for the Codebreaker. Ambrose catches Jericho and slams him down, then picks him up and hits Dirty Deeds, then pins for the win. (USA 3 - International 3)
Sasha Banks is shown backstage, as she says that Charlotte thinks she’ll never be the Women’s Champion. Sasha says that Charlotte would not be champion right now if it weren’t for her father, saying she would have won the title at WrestleMania. Sasha says when they face each other one on one, she will become the WWE Women’s Champion.
AJ Styles is shown backstage, getting ready for his six man tag team main event, when The New Day approach. Xavier tells AJ that they’ll make sure The Bálor Club doesn’t interfere in the match. AJ tells them its alright, saying that if they want to be cowards and attack him 3 on 1, he’ll have two guys out there with him already to make sure that doesn’t happen. AJ says that New Day needs to focus on Gallows and Anderson, and their title defense at Battleground. AJ says he’ll focus on Finn Bálor, as well as getting the winning point for Team USA.
John Cena, AJ Styles and Roman Reigns (USA) vs. Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus and Kevin Owens (International) After a chaotic match, John Cena is left in the ring with Alberto Del Rio, as all the other participants are laid out outside the ring. Del Rio looks to defeat John Cena the same way he did on the night he returned. Cena is on his knees, as Del Rio measures for a Superkick. As Del Rio goes for the move, Cena quickly stands, catches Del Rio’s leg, and pulls him in, picking him up, and laying him out with the Attitude Adjustment. Cena goes for the cover and gets the win for Team USA. (USA 4 - 3 International)
Cena begins celebrating the win, as Team USA came back from a 3-0 deficit to win the night 4-3. AJ Styles and Roman Reigns join him in the ring. This is suddenly broken up when Kevin Owens enters the ring and attacks Roman Reigns. Cena and AJ try to get Owens away from Reigns, but Baron Corbin and Finn Bálor hit the ring to attack Cena and Styles respectively. Dean Ambrose’s theme hits, and he runs out, making the save by attacking Kevin Owens and dumping him from the ring. This allows Ambrose and Reigns to help with Bálor and Corbin, as they end up on the outside as well. All four stand in the ring, staring out at their foes, to end the show.WWE Battleground

WWE NEWS3 Hours or 2 Hours? WWE has decided to let Raw return to it’s 2 hour format in order to keep the brand equal. Word is that this decision was made so as to not burn out their fans with 6 hours of content in a week, excluding Superstars and Main Event. Former WWE Stars Returning? WWE is currently looking at a few former stars to return to help pad out the rosters. Word is no returning star would be a “Main Event” talent, and would rather be a midcarder, and be on the roster for depth purposes. Notable Off-Screen Signings WWE has announced on their website some signings that have been made off screen. Raw has signed The Social Outcasts, Neville, Naomi, Tamina, and Sin Cara. SmackDown has signed Kane, Mark Henry, Fandango, Tyler Breeze, and Summer Rae. The rosters are not fully announced, but most active competitors currently have a brand. NXT Call-Ups WWE is planning on calling up many talents all at once to help pad out the rosters as well. Word is that once the brand split takes effect, many talents will be debuting within weeks of each other. New Championship Plans? WWE had previously announced that there were no intentions of having multiple World Titles between brands. There are now plans to introduce a new World Title, or re-introduce the World Heavyweight Championship, to give both brands their own feel, rather than have one traveling champion. This is currently only in discussion, and has not made it past that as of yet. There are no discussions on a second Women’s Title or a second tag team title.

Raw starts with Vince McMahon coming down to the ring. He begins by saying that in 2 weeks, WWE will present Battleground on the WWE Network! He then says that after Battleground, the WWE will officially split itself into two separate brands, Raw and SmackDown! He then calls out the General Managers of each brand, Stephanie and Shane McMahon. They each come out separately. Vince says that this split is good for business, and says that the sibling rivalry between them is good as well. Stephanie says she couldn’t agree more, and says that she wouldn’t be as determined to beat SmackDown if anyone else was their General Manager. Shane says that he would always be as determined as he is, because he wants to make SmackDown the best show possible. He says that adding on beating Stephanie is just a plus. Vince says that he wants to light a competitive fire under both brands, and he says he wants to see better shows on both ends. Just as he’s about to continue… “BEHOLD THE KING!” The fans go nuts, as Triple H walks out onto the stage, returning for the first time since WrestleMania. He comes down to the ring, and he says that Stephanie is the Raw General Manager, and Shane is the SmackDown General Manager. He then asks Vince what his spot is in this brand split. Vince says that Triple H is the COO of the company, and says, like himself, that he can appear on either brand at any time. Vince then says that while he can appear on either brand, he is more of an overseer rather than a decision maker. Triple H just stares down with Vince, then leaves the ring.
