Beware The Bat – Episode 5 – Anarky FallsScene 1Commissioner Jim Gordon is sitting at his desk in the Gotham Police Department re-watching the events that occurred at the fundraiser on his computer where Batman saved both him and his daughter from Anarky. A knock is heard at his door before Detective Renee Montoya walks in. Jim pops his head up and turns off the video.
Jim Gordon: "Yes, Detective?"
Renee Montoya: "Commissioner, Harvey and I have a lead on The Batman."
Jim Gordon: "What is it?"
Renee Montoya: "Well, we found some security footage of an elderly man tossi-"
Jim Gordon: "Actually, stop. We have more important things to worry about than The Batman."
Renee Montoya: "But, Jim we hav-"
Commissioner Gordon becomes outwardly frustrated, stands up and yells at Renee.
Jim Gordon: "We have more important matters to deal with! Like the man who put a gun to my daughter's head! Focus on him! Not the Batman!"
Renee Montoya: "Yes, sir. I understand. I-, we'll get on it now."
Renee walks out and Jim sits back down in his chair and rubs his temples.
Scene 2 We see Bruce in The Batcave, tinkering with something at a work desk as Alfred walks down a staircase. Alfred walks up behind Bruce.
Alfred: "Miss Harleen left, sir."
Bruce: "Okay, Alfred."
Alfred: "I must say, that one definitely seemed off."
Bruce: "What do you mean?"
Alfred: "Well, to put it plainly sir, I think she's got a few screws loose."
Bruce: "Doesn't matter, it was a one time thing."
Alfred: "She didn't seem to think so. In fact, she said 'See you next time, Jeeves' when she left."
Bruce ignores Alfred and pulls out what he was working on which is just his cowl.
Bruce: "I've finished it. What do you think, Alfred?"
Alfred: "Your mask, sir? It looks no different. "
Bruce: "I installed a high-powered radio scanner in it so I can not only hear you but I can hear police scanners and nearby walkie-talkies."
Alfred: "Oh, well that sounds useful."
Bruce: "Anyway, what were you saying about Harleen?"
Alfred: "I was saying that I think she's a little cra-"
Alfred is cut off by loud static from the Bat-Computer. The static continues for about sixty seconds as Bruce presse buttons to try to fix it but then Anarky appears on all of the screens. His voice is distorted this time.
Anarky: "Hello, Batman. Looks like I've found you before you've found me. Do you realize how difficult you were to find? I know you put up quite the fight with your firewalls and protection but I broke those walls down and I took a peek beyond the Bat. I know who you are, Batman so I know you're going to do exactly as I command. Isn't that right, Bats? You and I need to have a face to face conversation so meet me at Ace Chemicals at Midnight or else I'll expose you as the spoiled brat you are."
Bruce and Alfred look at each other with looks of shock and determination as the scene cuts away.
Scene 3 The next scene begins In what appears to be a college classroom that is currently teaching Criminal Justice. We see Barbara Gordon looking down at her notebook amd doodling bat symbols as she doesn't pay any attention to the class being taught. She hears "Class dismissed" from the professor and snaps out of her apparent daydream and leaves her seat. She begins walking out of the class when a male voice from behind her says
"Quite the notes the notes you were taking."
Barbara is startled and looks behind her and it's a young man with dark hair, in her age group. She awkwardly stumbles her words.
Barbara Gordon: "Oh, I was just uh, yeah."
The young man extends his hand to her and introduces himself.
"Nice to meet you too, my name is Richard Grayson, but you can call.me Dick."
Barbara shakes his hand and smiles.
Barbara Gordon: "Hi, I'm Barbara."
Dick Grayson: "So, you're a fan of that Bat guy who everyone's talking about?"
Barbara Gordon: "Well, yeah, he does all the things the police can't or won't do."
Dick Grayson: "Yeah, I guess that's true. Kinda makes you wish there were more of him in Gotham to stop all of the crime."
Barbara Gordon: "I've been thinking the same thing. Anyway, I'd love to stick around and talk but my Dad is waiting for me in the parking lot. See you around, Dick."
Dick Grayson's expression goes blank.
Dick Grayson: "Oh, okay, bye."
Scene 4 The scene cuts away to a flashback at a Cirque de Soleil type of show where we see a backstage conversation between a younger Dick Grayson and his parents. They're all dressed in their costumes for the show.
Dick Grayson: "I'm fine! It was just a little stomach bug, I'm over it now."
Mr. Grayson: "I don't care how you think you feel, you go out there and start performing and whatever is wrong with you will come back up and you'll get sick on stage."
Mrs. Grayson: "And if you get sick, you'll lose focus and could get seriously hurt. We're just looking out for you, Richard."
Dick just gets visibly frustrated and storms away as a large black man in a suit approaches the Grayson parents.
Mr. Grayson: "Hey Milos, What are you doing here now?"
Milos Grapa: "Falcone says rents due."
Mr. Grayson: "We don't have it right now, our attendance has been dipping quite a bit so our income isn't quite what it used to be."
Milos Grapa: "That's the third month in a row that you've missed."
Mr. Grayson: "Please, just give us one more week, I'll get the money."
Milos Grapa: "Yeah, we'll see."
Milos walks away as the scene cuts towards the end of their performance. Dick is just re-entering the arr as he watches his Mom and Dad take a bow upon the stage as the announcer says "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Flying Graysons!". They exit the stage and begin leaving but are stopped by Dick.
Dick Grayson: " Where are you going?"
Mr. Grayson: "We've got to go to the bank, we've got to go take out some money from our savings to pay rent."
Dick Grayson: "Right now?"
Mr. Grayson: "Yes now, immediately. We'll see you later, Dick."
Mr. and Mrs. Grayson leave through the back entrance and go out to the parking lot. Dick is walking the opposite direction when *BANG BANG BANG* gunshots are heard outside. Dick runs outside and sees his parents shot and killed right outside of the door. Dick sees Milos Grapa walking away from the scene of the crime but is too focused on his dying parents to do anything.
Scene 5The next scene begins as Lucius Fox is sitting in an office and is on the phone.
Lucius Fox: "Mr. Pennyworth, I understand Mr. Wayne is busy but he really needs to start being more involved in his own company otherwise he might lose it. LexCorp has been trying to take over for months now and eventually Luthor will get his way if Bruce doesn't take an active role in Wayne Industries. Okay... okay, well get him here as soon as you can. Bye Alfred."
A knock is heard at Fox's door.
Lucius Fox: "Come in!"
Edward Nygma walks in.
Edward Nygma: "Hello sir, I've managed to craft the right algorithms to enhance our online security by 76.3 percent what it used to be. I doubt we'll be getting anymore intrusions from any cyber terrorists. "
Lucius Fox: "Fantastic, how is Project Brain-Waves coming along?"
Edward Nygma: "Oh well, it was deterred by the security enhancements but so far it's looking pretty good. I think it'll be ready to test in a couple of weeks."
Lucius Fox: "That's great to hear, Edward. This project will launch Wayne Industries to the top of medical technology."
Scene 6 The next scene cuts away to Bruce suiting up to become Batman.
Alfred: "Sir, I don't think this is a wise decision. It's probably a trap?"
Batman: "I know it's a trap but I'm prepared to take down Anarky tonight."
Alfred: "Bruce, I buried your parents after serving them for 20 years and I've taken care of you since you were an eight year old orphan. I'm not going to bury you too."
Batman: "You won't be burying me, Alfred. Not anytime soon."
Alfred: That's not comforting. "
Batman: "It's not supposed to be but it's the truth."
With that line, Batman gets into the Batmobile and drives out of the Batcave.
Scene 7 The next scene cuts to the Police Station where Renee Montoya and Harvey Bullock are sitting at their desks , having some coffee and donuts while going over paperwork.
Harvey Bullock: "I still can't believe Jim yelled at you like that."
Renee Montoya: "I believe it, look what he just went through."
Harvey Bullock: "I know but we've got a lead on The Bat and he doesn't want anything to do with it."
Renee Montoya: "Well, Batman did just save his and his daughter's lives. Maybe, he's going soft on Batman."
Harvey Bullock: "Yeah, maybe we should put the Bat investigation on hold for now."
Renee Montoya: "Then what are we supposed to do?"
Harvey Bullock: "I dunno, what about Dent? Two-Face hasn't been seen since Falcone got taken down by Batman. "
Renee Montoya: "Maybe, he's planning something. He probably absorbed at least half of Falcone's guys."
Harvey Bullock: "Ya think so? I heard from one of my informants that a lot of Falcone's assets were taken over by some clown guy."
Scene 8 The next scene cuts away to the Batmobile pulling up in front of the old Ace Chemicals building as Batman gets out and just looks up at the building as the Batmobile drives itself away. Batman walks up to the building and enters through the front door and starts coughing. He quickly puts on a breathing mask that fixes the problem.
Batman: "Some kind of toxic gas in the air."
Batman begins walking through the halls and starts to see some of Anarky's henchmen lying dead on the ground with creepy smiles on their faces. Batman checks a couple of their pulses.
Batman: "They're all gone, this isn't Anarky's MO."
Batman continues walking and eventually reaches an office that has the word "BOSS" spraypainted on the door in bright red. Batman busts the door open and sees Anarky, in full gear and mask, slouched in a swivel chair behind a desk. Batman bangs on the desk and yells at Anarky.
Batman: "What did you do to them!?"
Suddenly, a voice is heard from behind Batman.
"I don't think he's going to answer you."Batman turns around and sees The Joker standing there. Joker walks around Batman and the desk and puts his arm around Anarky.
Batman: "You. You did this..... who are you?"
Joker:
"Me? I'm the yin to your yang, the Voldemort to your Harry Potter, the Juliet to your Romeo, the Sith to your Jedi, the wind beneath your wings... I am the Joker."TO BE CONTINUED
